Segregation literature review

In this project we were aiming to understand how segregation is defined and measured. In particular, we were interested in the dimensions of segregation that different measures are trying to capture, and the pros and cons of different measurement approaches. The review has a critical element to it in that we sought to ascertain whether a segregation index is measuring what we think it is measuring and whether there is evidence on how robust a measure is to particular measurement challenges such as the Modifiable Area Unit Problem (MAUP). We focused in particular on approaches that advance the measurement of segregation and offer fruitful avenues for future development and innovation.
